Doing your internship abroad can be an exhilarating experience. Most people experience different stages of feelings after leaving their home culture. This so-called culture shock has 4 stages. This report will outline the different phases and give recommendations on how to deal with it.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”22px|100px|22px|100px|true|true” custom_padding_tablet=”0px|40px|0|40px|false|true” custom_padding_phone=”0px|0px|0px|0px|false|true” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|tablet” _builder_version=”3.5.1″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_image src=”https://www.pic-management.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/5-stages-culture-shock-deal.jpg” _builder_version=”3.12.2″ alt=”The 5 stages of culture shock and how to deal with it.” /][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”22px|100px|22px|100px|true|true” custom_padding_tablet=”0px|40px|0px|40px|true|true” custom_padding_phone=”0px|0px|0px|0px|true|true” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|phone” _builder_version=”3.5.1″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.17.1″ text_font=”Nunito||||||||” text_line_height=”1.9em” header_line_height=”1.2em” header_2_font=”Nunito Sans|700|||||||” header_2_text_align=”left” header_2_text_color=”#37b0cd” header_2_font_size=”20px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_2_line_height=”1.5em” text_orientation=”justified”]

During this time everything is great, exciting and new. You will experience the differences, meet new people, taste new foods and visit some sights. The trip seems like the greatest decision ever made. This phase can last days, weeks or month. On short trips or internships, this phase might be the only one.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”22px|100px|22px|100px|true|true” custom_padding_tablet=”0px|40px|0px|40px|true|true” custom_padding_phone=”0px|0px|0px|0px|true|true” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|phone” _builder_version=”3.5.1″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.6″ text_font=”Nunito||||||||” text_line_height=”1.9em” header_line_height=”1.2em” header_2_font=”Nunito Sans|700|||||||” header_2_text_align=”left” header_2_text_color=”#37b0cd” header_2_font_size=”20px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_2_line_height=”1.5em” text_orientation=”justified”]

The realities can become overwhelming. Differences are noticed but not in a good way. Besides that, you start missing things from back home such as the food. You are tired of not understanding signs, gestures or the language. You start to appreciate things at home and feel sad, angry or confused. It is normal to feel a bit homesick or depressed when staying a long time abroad.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”22px|100px|22px|100px|true|true” custom_padding_tablet=”0px|40px|0px|40px|true|true” custom_padding_phone=”0px|0px|0px|0px|true|true” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|phone” _builder_version=”3.5.1″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.6″ text_font=”Nunito||||||||” text_line_height=”1.9em” header_line_height=”1.2em” header_2_font=”Nunito Sans|700|||||||” header_2_text_align=”left” header_2_text_color=”#37b0cd” header_2_font_size=”20px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_2_line_height=”1.5em” text_orientation=”justified”]

You meet new people and begin to feel more familiar and comfortable with the culture.
